Off to dine on one of my favorite foods, Italian.  I didn’t just go by myself, my grandson and one of my granddaughters and I ventured out to see Puss in Boots and have dinner.  Great time, great time.

My granddaughter ordered the spaghetti le polpette, grandson – jumbo lobster ravioli & tiramisu.  I had the penne alla vodka.  Now to sum it all up, the spaghetti le polpette, al dente, sauce was quite tasty as well as the meatballs, bite size; lobster ravioli, real lobster meat, fresh ricotta cheese, tiramisu, classic, great mascarpone cheese layered among the ladyfingers, great; penne all voda, creamy, smooth, and very seasoned.  The vodka sauce did its job in melding the creaminess with the tomato base.  This is definitely a restaurant that I will be returning to countless of times.

So, me and my crew, daughter, granddaughters, grandson and great granddaughter (yep, that’s correct you read it right) decided to stop on in for dinner and no shopping which was a feat within its self. We were seated almost immediately and met our very on point waitress Katie.  Such a pleasant and uplifting personality.

I ordered the Red Robin Gourmet Cheeseburger and the bottomless steak fries.  Dangerous.  Red onions (extra onions please), pickles, lettuce and tomatoes.  Listen.  I tried, I gave it the old college try to finish every bite of the cheeseburger and I really tried to finish the first order of fries, but head hung low, I lost the battle.  But everything was so good, that I felt like kicking my shoes off under the table.  My daughter ordered the cauliflower pizza topped with Roma tomatoes, green peppers, yellow onions, and baby spinach.  I tried a small piece and it was good.  Now one of my brilliant granddaughters order the cheese pizza with pineapple and red onions on top.  Now that was good, I wouldn’t have thought of that.  My grandson had the classic cheeseburger and from the looks of his clean plate, I would say that he enjoyed it.  My great granddaughter had the kids cheese pizza, but was busy tasting almost everyone else’s food. 

The atmosphere was very pleasant and my family along with the entire section I was sitting it, surprised me with singing happy birthday.  After my initial surprise I started conducting the “choir”.  I took my bow and we all just laughed and joke around, no strangers there.  Fun was had by all.

We finally got in.  We tried the day before around 4:00 pm but the wait was 1 ½ - 2 hours.  This time the wait was only 15 minutes. 

Once seated our waiter Ian came over and said “I’m make your dining experience enjoyable”.  Brilliant!  And it was.  I ordered the Margarita flatbread pizza.  My granddaughter Skye was the chicken avocado club sandwich on a grilled brioche bread but without the roasted almonds.    Her sandwich looked so good and it was good, I’m have to order one the next time.  Mines was very good, with the taste of mozzarella, basil and topped with tomato sauce on flatbread! I ate the entire pizza!  No shame to my game. 

So if you find yourself in the Irvine Spectrum Mall and decide to head over to the Cheesecake Factory, ask for Ian.

So.  On this day we decided to journey to Woody’s Diner.  Busy, crowded, but we got a seat within 5 minutes.  Efficient. 

My daughter ordered the two eggs any style with toast.  My granddaughter’s was the Fiesta Carne Asada Fries, topped with cheddar jack cheese, carne asada, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole.    Both enjoyed their dishes.

I ordered from the Two Egg Combos section, bacon & eggs with 4 slices of bacon, home fries and toast. I ask for onions and cheese to be added to my scramble eggs.  Yet a fascinating thing happened.  The onions were raw and just thrown on top of my eggs.  The home fries were cold and lacked season, very bland, the toast was hard and cold.  Now, I thought, ummm, the waiter, Jacob must be real busy and my food was just left out for a while, because we saw him just going back and forth between tables.  But that doesn’t explain the raw onions and no seasoning.  After speaking with the manager Kayla, things got a lot better except for the home fries!!  I was told that they do not seasoned the home fries because of the number of seniors that come in and they have high blood pressure and etc.  So, to be foretold is to be forewarned.  When I return, I will not order the home fries.

Well, what’s for dinner.  After a short discussion, we went to Taco Rosa for a communion of the palate.  My daughter had the T rosa Combo, which she said was very good.  My granddaughter had the bean and cheese burrito with esquites (corn salad), and I had the rosa chicken fajitas.  All was very well seasoned, tasty and the original horchata (drink) was new to me.  It’s a traditional Mexican drink that is made up of white rice soaked in water and flavored with cinnamon, vanilla extract, sugar or tiger nuts and sometimes milk or evaporated milk. It’s smooth and rich kind of tasting with a bit of sweetness.   

Deillelmo was the most pleasant and efficient server.  She has a very welcoming personality which made you feel comfortable right away.

I will be returning.

French Toast

Hello from California!  I am sitting here at Snooze with my daughter Teria and granddaughter Skye.  From what I’m told, Snooze is always crowded, and you usually find yourself having to wait like we did for 45 minutes. 

I ordered the Pancake Flight with blueberries which were fluffy, light with a sprinkle of blueberries inside the pancakes.  After readying my fork and knife to dive into my pancakes, I took a few bites and found that they were ok.  

Teria had the French Toast Neat, made with toasted brioche, topped with whipped mascarpone and fruit which she enjoyed.

Skye’s dish was the had the OMG! French Toast made from a brioche stuffed with mascarpone, topped with vanilla crème, caramel, strawberries and toasted coconut.  As you can see the presentation was pleasing to the eye but wasn’t quite enjoyable.

Overall, it fell short of all the hype that Teria and Skye had been hearing.  Our server was either overworked with a lot of tables or distracted with what I would have no idea.  We had to ask for silverware, napkins, water and finally ask another servicer to bring us our bill.  Was it busy, yes so be prepared.
