Saturday, August 31, 2019 at 9:00 am my daughter Teria, granddaughter's Skye & Cherokee & I caught the Five Star bus tour at the Santa Fe train depot in beautiful downtown San Diego.

Rosarito is only about 40 miles south of the U.S - Mexico border at San Diego, is a Pacific Coast resort city with a mild climate and its on the Baja coastline  It's a coastal city in Mexico a and a where our driver Juan dropped us off was right in the middle of their downtown area.  Small shops, hotels, watersports, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and people selling touristy items.  My granddaughters went horseback riding on the beach. I saw people riding ATV's on the beach. This is a place where a lot of American college students come to hang out.

Rosarito Beach is known as the "Party Beach" and where some United States college students go for spring break.  On the tour its called the "Baja Lobster Tour".  But let me tell you, it lives up to the name Party Beach.  Party over here, party over there, party everywhere, no kidding.

I went galloping off by myself between wandering and dancing along the walkways that housed outside many bars & restaurants that had DJ's and I was New York savvy and safe.  People are very friendly.

You can choose from a variety of cuisine's i.e. Mexican, Italian, French, American and Chinese.  You will see a lot of restaurants advertising seafood (especially lobsters).

Titanic, Pearl Harbor, In Dreams, Deep Blue Sea and other movies were filmed at Rosarito Beach.

For safety reasons, just be careful and you will have a safe and wonderful journey to this seaside hamlet.  And do enjoy the scenery on your way there.

Why is Baja California called Baja, California when it is in Mexico?

It all began with the Mexican-American War (1846-1848) that resulted in major repercussions for Baja California.  The war began after Mexico refused the United States offered to buy California, Nevada, Utah and parts of Colorado, Arizona, Wyoming and New Mexico.  Mexico signed a treaty ending the war, and gave in to the United States demands and ceded the vast territory in exchange for $15 million.  Now, the original draft of the treaty included Baja California in the sale, but the United States eventually agreed to omit the peninsula because of its proximity to Sonora, which is located just across the Sea of Cortes.

Also originally there was Alta California and Baja California - Baja went to Mexico, Alta to the US, and the "Alta" was dropped from the name of the northern area.  Also, Alta California covered a large area.  Even though California was once Mexican territory, and even then, they called it California, before it was ever a state. So they still view it as "California" but the California side that's in Mexico. It's not California the state, it's California the territory, and Mexico's side of California.

Baja California, is also called Baja California Norte, estado (state) which is in the northwestern part of Mexico, to the north by the United States, California and Arizona, and to the east by the State of Senora and the Gulf of California (Sea of Cortes), and to the west by the Pacific Ocean, and to the south by the state of Baja California Sur.

So there you have it.
