Victoria Canada - much to see and do

Victoria Canada

August 14, 2020 - August 18, 2020

This episode is not about just eating, it's about the beauty.

On my way by boat from Seattle Washington to Victoria Canada.  What a absolutely beautiful ride.  The scenery, wind blowing, ease of the sleek Victoria Clipper as she glided through the waters, friendly, professional crew, birds flying on this scenic cruise.

What a absolutely beautiful ride.  The scenery, wind blowing, ease of the Victoria Clipper  as she glided through the waters, friendly and professional crew, birds flying, viewing the different islands, some with homes on the water or sitting on top of a small cliff.  Take a peak through the trees and you will see homes peaking through.

Victoria is the capital city of the Canadian province of British Columbia, on the southern tip of Vancouver Island off Canada's Pacific coast.  Victoria is known as the "City of Gardens".  I liked strolling down Victoria's streets, even the narrow ones.  Hanging in some of their parks, trying the different restaurants, visiting the shops, shopping and meeting people who are so friendly.

Victoria is a vibrant city, fun to experience in exploring such as whale watching Orca's, Humpback's, fishing, visiting the rainforest, ziplining, kayaking, diving, hiking, cycling, farms, Craigdarroch Castle, beaches, lakes and much more.  In Victoria you get to see the past and the present in the architect and it is the Northwest oldest city.  I visited the Butchart Gardens which I blogged on a separate page.

Victoria experiences year round coastal climate.  And I will be back, many times over.

Vancouver, Canada - adventures abound

Vancouver Canada!

I vacationed herefrom August 18 - 20, 2020 with my grandson Demetric and granddaughter Cherokee.  The three days that I was here, absolutely begs for a return trip, several times over.  This pacific northwest town on the pacific ocean is so cool, sophisticated, jazzy and beautiful.  Mountains, water restaurants, tall modern buildings, clean, world class shops and easy to get around.   I was on and off their trains and buses, easy breezy.

Now this page is going to be a tour of some of the things that I captured.  On other pages, I will detail the restaurants such as The BoatHouse and Le Petit Belge.

This is a tale of two stopovers, Capilano Suspension Bridge and Granville Island Public Market.

Let us begin.

Capilano Suspension Bridge
3735 Capilano Rd
North Vancouver, BC V7R 4J1, Canada
www.capbridge.com

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is not to be missed.  The bridge gives you a treetop scenic view of North Vancouver's forest.  Then you have the cliffside journey.  Fun, thrilling, gasp, breathless and a happy experience as you explore the park.  The name Capilano is actually a First Nations name belonging to the Squamish Nation and originally spelled Kia’palano, meaning “beautiful river”. Kia’palano was the name of a great Squamish chief who lived in this area in the early part of the 1800s. Over time “Kia’palano” was anglicized into “Capilano”: a word that has become the namesake of our bridge and park as well as the river and surrounding area.  The bridge was built in 1889 and is 450 feet long and hangs 230 feet above the Capilano River.  This bridge can hold up to 96 full grown elephants.

Hours:  Sunday - Saturday - 9AM - 6PM

Salted apple garlet - delicious - $4.00

Joe's BBQ Boat - is a round electric powered vessel that is a floating diner booth that seats 8 with a barbeque grill in the middle of the boat.

This pacific northwest town on the pacific ocean is so cool, sophisticated, jazzy and beautiful and it is a major city in western Canada.  Mountains, water restaurants, tall modern buildings, clean, world class shops and easy to get around.   I was on and off their trains and buses, easy breezy.

Over time “Kia’palano” was anglicized into “Capilano”: a word that has become the namesake of the bridge and park as well as the river and surrounding area.  The bridge was built in 1889 and is 450 feet long and hangs 230 feet above the Capilano River.  This bridge can hold up to 96 full grown elephants.

This is a place for family fun, couples or singles, you will find your personal adventure here.  Hotels run from economical to boutique, inexpensive to expensive.

Stopped by Granville Island Public Market.  Take your pick, which way do you go.  What you do is snack and grab walking your way through the market and you can either sit upstairs and eat or go outside.  As you walk around outside there is live music.   Love the river view.

Come and take a word stroll with me in Vancouver.
Sandy beaches, rainforests, mountains, take a sky ride in a gondola to Grouse Mountains peak - see the North Shore Mountain - Pacific Ocean, wildlife watching, paddling, kayak, bring your fishing rod and fish for salmon, trout, net Dungenes crabs or maybe some prawns.

How about camping overnight at the Vancouver Zoo, bring your tent.  Or take a tour with Stanley Park Horse Drawn tours with Clydesdales and Shires pulling the tram  Go to Grouse Mountains and see (maybe) and learn about bear conservation.  Hike Mother Nature Stair Master's Trail up Grouse Mountains, 18 miles long 2,800 stairs.

Hotels run from economical to boutique, inexpensive to expensive.

You don't need to rent a car, its easy to get around via their public transportation, which I rode a lot, especially the Sky Train.  No conductor or motorman, its remote operated.  Clean, smooth & safe.  There are agents standing in the stations to help assist you in purchasing a card to enter and engage you in their wonderful city.

Many movies are made in Vancouver, such as:  Superman: Man of Steel, Deadpool 2, 50/50, Night at the Museum, Skyscraper, Apollo 18, Robo Cop, I, Robot, The Interview, Mission: Impossible 4, Juno and many more.  How about television series:  Riverdale, Alcatrez, Travelers, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Arrow, Once Upon a Time, X-Files, The Good Doctor and again, many more.

I have plans on visiting Vancouver many many many times over the next overcoming years and then some!

The Original Fried Chicken & Waffle Sandwich - $11.70
Seasoned Fries - $4.95 (not shown)
Orange soda - $3.25

Chicken.  Marinate in buttermilk for 24 hours then fried to order.  Can you say crispy, tasty, juicy, crunchy and delightful.  That's Bruxie's Original seasoned breast chicken with cider slaw.  I ask for mines on the side and ask for their maple syrup.  Yes you read it right.  Then the seasoned fries.  Fresh and well seasoned.  The waffle is so light yet it's able to handle the chicken breast.  This is not some waffle mix out of a box, this is beat the eggs, mix in the flour, beat, stirred, blend the rest of the fresh ingredients and you will be content.

What else am I missing.  Oh yes a drink, some napkins and a seat. I'll either get the strawberry lemonade, soda or ice tea.  I must go to Bruxie's whenever I'm in California.  I don't care if its the first day, I'm there but not like my first time.  My daughter Teria took me 3 years ago on my last day in California and may I say that I raised her right.  You just don't treat people that way it was so disrespectful.  Did she not think that I might want a revisit before I left!

My first time at Bruxie's was in Brea and I met two firemen who gave me suggestions for my next visit.  Well, don't tell them but I haven't gotten past the chicken and waffle yet but I will.

If you are even in California or Las Vegas, stop on by for something different yet very good.
