On Thursday, August 15, 2019 in the mid afternoon after arriving in Victoria & checking into our hotel, my granddaughter took the bus into downtown and went into the TD Bank on Douglas Street to convert our money to Canadian dollars.  My teller Atta (transplant from Toronto) and I began to have a conversation about Victoria and he stated that he moved there because of the weather.  That it doesn't get as cold or get as much snow as in other parts of Canada because it's on the west coast.  I ask him could he give me a few recommendations on where to eat and he immediately said Frankie's Diner.

So off to Frankie's, Cherokee, my granddaughter and I went.  Frankie's is a modern diner that is locally owned and operated by Frankie, who I had the good fortune to meet.  Such a wonderful person, full of personality, information with a great sense of humor.

Frankie's is a modern dining restaurant that is locally owned and operated by Frankie.

I ordered the margarita pizza.  Once it was set down in from of me you could smell the sauce.  You can tell that the marinara sauce is freshly made topped with roasted Roma tomatoes, fresh fresh basil and mozzarella.  And the pizza crust, say what!!!  Frankie's food is made from scratch down to the crust, yummy!  The pizza is gluten free with a vegan crust.

Margarita pizza - $15 1/2 = $15.50 US
Roma-style pizza just like Frank's mom used to make.  House-made marinara sauce, roasted Roma tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil.  Glutten free with a vegan crust

Yep back again!  Allow me to tell you and show you why.

On our return trip a few days later we returned with my grandson Demetric and fun was had by all.

On Saturday, August 17, 2019 around 10:00 in the morning my grandson and granddaughter went looking for a restaurant that served breakfast and lo and behold we traveled several blocks downtown, east, west, north and south and the only one that was opened was Frankie's and this was at 10:20 am.

We were welcomed and shown to our table by a gentleman who we later found out was Frankie the owner.   Now I ask you, do you usually see an owner pitching in like clearing the table, seating customers and moving tables?   Well, that's Frankie.  Very unassuming yet so full of life and with a wonderful sense of humor, down to earth and so energetic.  One of the hardest thing to do is to open and maintain a restaurant.  Frankie seems to have found a few ingredients that blends well.  You're find sugar in the raw instead of white sugar in the sugar dispense.

Our waiter Spencer is also a transplant but from Hawaii.  Such a efficient and friendly person.  The wait staff wear black and white t-shirts that reads on the back "Embrace your inner Italian, Ask me about Frankie's meatballs and Let them eat cheesecake".  Brilliant

I ask Frankie about the recipes and he stated that they were his mother's that she brought over from Italy then she moved to Toronto and finally to Victoria.

Lauren, our waitress brought with you her expertise in the menu along with a jolly sense of humor and wisdom.

Frankie not only came over to our table but he gave us a some suggestions as to were we should visit.  We did.  Looking forward to returning to Frankie's again.

Belgian Waffles - Whipped cream, house-made blueberry compote and lemon curd - $9

                        Freshly squeezed orange juice - 5 1/2  (8 oz.) - 6 1/2 (10 oz.)

No you are not seeing double.  We came back the same day for an early dinner.  We were still in the neighborhood.  There is so much to see and do.

The sampler consist of apple pie, key lime pie and cheesecake.  Each apple pie has 13 granny smith apples from Washington state.

Frankie's in located in the downtown Victoria, walking distance to just about anyplace you want to visit and it is just a couple of blocks from the Inner-Harbour Pathway where you can catch free open air concerts, comedy and artists.

Frankie's Turkey Club sandwich - $15 3/4

Frankie's Classic 1/4 lb. Cheeseburger dressed with Big Frank's burger sauce
& salad- $6 3/4 -  French fries - $3

Hugh Apple pie - served warm with vanilla ice cream
and drizzled with house made caramel sauce - $12 = $8.50

NY Style Vanilla Cheesecake topped with 4 berries - $9 3/4 = $5.00 US

Frankie's Trio Sampler - Apple pie, key lime pie and cheesecake - $12

The cheeseburger was good to the specifications that Demetric (grandson) asked for.  It was juicy, well seasoned especially with the burger sauce and very good with the side of fries and salad, yep yep, didn't hear him talking too much. Neither did I hear much from Cherokee (granddaughter) either which means that they were enjoying their meal.

My turkey sandwich was bigger than I expected.  The turkey breast was roasted in house with maple bacon, tomato, arugula, maple bacon, avocado & salsa verde aioli on a grilled focaccia.  My, my my.  I tried to do it justice, but I couldn't.  The turkey was tender, tasted like it was grilled and placed on that focaccia roll, please tell me that it was made in house.  So good.

The desserts, well the pictures speak for themselves.  The sampler consist of apple pie, key lime pie and cheesecake.  Each apple pie has 13 granny smith apples from Washington state.  The NY Style Vanilla Cheesecake was creamy and especially with the raspberry sauce and fresh whip cream!  I made room and ate it all.

To sum it all up the waitstaff was very attentive, friendly and a good sense of humor.  There is just a comfortable feeling residing in Frankie's.

Frankie's in located in the downtown Victoria, walking distance to just about anyplace you want to visit and it is just a couple of blocks from the Inner Harbour where you can catch free open air concerts, comedy and artists.

I am definitely looking forward to visiting Frankie's again.  Not just for the food but for the atmosphere, the customers and the waitstaff.
