Regina Margherita Pizza - $14.00
Made by Big Domenick

Chicken Saltimbocca - $22.00

Linguine

Chicken Parmigiana - $20.00

After driving pass this restaurant several times and seeing that it was always crowded, on Thursday February 17th, my daughter Brandy & decided that we would venture in to try it  out.  Plus we were looking for an Italian restaurant.  What we found upon entering was a very friendly staff who greeted us and we were seated promptly.  Our server was Kennedy who was such a wonderful and informative person with a great personality.  She was also very patient while we made up our minds.

As you can see by the picture with Big Domenick (one of the owners) who made my pizza in the wood burning oven that was shipped all the way from Italy – told to me by Rosario (one of the owners), oh my my my!  You can taste the quality ingredients in the pizza so savory, fresh buffalo mozzarella, fresh basil, San Marzano tomato sauce and the crust, thin, light and airy, oh so good, goody good good!

Can we talk about the chicken saltimbocca with linguine?  Saltimbocca means “jump in the mouth” with flavor.  Well it certainly lives up to its meaning.  The chicken breast was well seasoned and layered with spinach and a thin slice of prosciutto, topped with fresh mozzarella, garnish with fried sage leaves.  Not sure but the sauce that was tossed on the linguine tasted a bit like a marsala sauce, yum!  Brandy ordered the chicken parmigiana but loved my dish.  The very next day, we back to Amici’s and she order the chicken saltimbocca for takeout.

While we were dining, shifts changed and we met Ndeye who replaced Kennedy who was observant, attentive and friendly.   Great customer service overall.

Even though Amici’s gets busy, it maintains a very warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere while serving good food.  I have my eye on another item on their menu for the next time I visit and maybe I’ll have room for dessert.  In the meantime, you should just go and say hello to Rosario for me.

Wall of famous people

Wall of proclamations & awards

On Thursday, December 30, 2021, late in the afternoon, my granddaughter Cherokee was visiting from California and kept saying that she wanted to experience a "New York" pizza.  So her sister Skye and I went to Patsy's decided to travel with her.

As you can see they do not sell slices but the whole pie.  After much discussion we settled on the Original.  The pizza was the standard Neapolitan made on a flat base of leavened dough that was topped with tomatoes, cheese and sauce.  When you pick it up you get the fold so it flops a bit and once you take a bite, you taste the tomato sauce that's a little sweet, a little tangy and cheesy.  The crust was char-bubbly yet thin but had a sturdy bottom.  I like thin crust.   Overall, it was good and they serve more than just pizza.

Now for a bit of Patsy's history.  It is my understanding that the location we visit is no longer owned by the family.  The original Patsy's location is:  236 W. 56th Street - New York, NY /       212-247-3491

10 oz. Char-broiled Steakburger with steak fries - $13.95

Fruit Cheesecake - $8.95
Banana split - $10.95

Visited Juniors on Tuesday, 12/28/2021 at 6:00 pm with my daughter Teria, granddaughters Skye & Cherokee and great-granddaughter Jet who were visiting from California.  After checking out vaccination card and ID we were seated after around a 20 minute wait.

I ordered cole slaw ($3) to go along with my cheeseburger that came with lettuce, tomatoes and sauteed onions and steak fries on an oven toasted bun.  Juniors advertised that it is a steak burger but it's listed on the menu as a cheeseburger.  What I will say is that you can tell it is an actual steak which was juicy, tender and so well seasoned.  I could not finish it all.  But  my stomach was saying "go for the fruit cheesecake topped with blueberry compote, no the vanilla malt, no no, order the banana split, wait, no order the strawberry fruitcake".  Well as you can see what won out.  The cheesecake was so smooth and creamy, and the blueberry compote was not overly sweet.  I gave it my best, but my eyes were bigger than my stomach.  So, I had to walk away and leave just a few forks full.  Darn.  Cherokee's banana split was so good.  Next.

Now for a bit of Junior's history if you don't mind.  The original Junor's was founded by Harry Rosen in 1950 on Flatbush and DeKalb Avenues in Brooklyn (still in business) and is a landmark restaurant known as the home of New York's best cheesecake.  The second generation, Marvin and Walter took over the restaurant.  As of today, Walter's sons, Alan and Kevin remain at the helm.

Stop at any of their locations.  The customer service is great and the atmosphere is always vibrant.  My next dish will be the pastrami.  Tasted it, so so so good.

Grandma's pizza - $4.00

Koronet's Pizza has been around for a very long time, well known for making very large slides.  You do have the choice of selecting a regular or large slice.  Since this is in the Columbia University area, I see a lot of students ordering the large... why not.

Just because the slice is large doesn't mean it has no taste.  Far from it.

Grandma's pizza crust is tender and the pizza itself is so good.  From the crust to the basil leaves on top, you savor every bite.  You taste the sauce, garlic, mozzarella, the sauce (yum).

But let's talk about Grandma pizza.  Why call it Grandma?

There are different but similar variations of where the name came from.  What is well known is that it is a Sicilian-style pie that originated in Long Island New York during 1970.  As first generation Italian immigrants, the women were likely trying to recreate a pie they remembered from their home country with ingredients they had on hand and something you would get if you were invited to someone's home. It has a thin crust, cooked in an olive-oil coated rectangular pan and topped with mozzarella cheese and tomato sauce and it's cooked in a square pan.  The sauce is usually layered over the cheese and not the other way around, then cut into square pieces.  Sounds familiar?  Grandma pizza is usually made without a pizza oven.  And it was usually only made inside the home.

Enjoy.

Goodness greens with grilled salmon - $16.00

Once upon a Sunday afternoon, October 10th to be exact at 3:10 pm I stopped by this cute restaurant called Bite.  After making my selection of Goodness Greens ($10) and added grill salmon ($6), I took my number and politely sat down to wait for someone to deliver my food to my table.

Let me tell you about the salad.  Greens, lots of greens, baby spinach, roasted corn, avocado, tortilla strips, red onion, cherry tomatoes and goodness dressing.  The first bite tells you to go for the second, third, fourth, tenth, twenty something until it is all gone.  By the second bite, I ask for an extra dressing, yummy.

Customer service was friendly and efficient.   I will be back.  Stay tune.

Pancakes with warm maple butter & wild Maine blueberries - $16

Today I decided to go and try Clinton Street Baking Company that I've seen showcased on the Food Network Channel and try the much herald pancakes.  Well I arrived around 12:46, waited almost 1 hour to be seated.  And people were willing to wait 1 hour, 1 & 1/2 hours from what I saw.  While waiting I met this absolutely fabulous woman from Brazil name Natalie.  She made the rest of my wait a pleasure.  When I was text that my table was ready, I went in and decided that since Natalie wait was also over I ask her did she want to share a table and she did.  We had such a marvelous time, the conversation just flowed.  We ended up exchanging telephone numbers which I will stay in touch.

We both order pancakes and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.  Fluffy, soft, tasty, just down right good.  And let me tell the maple butter just topped it.  The fresh blueberries!  I could not eat everything, so I have to make another trip or 2 or 3 or more.  Whose counting.

Biscuits and Fixins - $9.00 -
Substituted 1 regular biscuit for a lemon blueberry biscuit - $1.00

Deviled eggs - $12.00

Saturday, August 21st around 1:30 pm I decided to visit Jacob's Pickles since I heard about the biscuits.  Once they checked my vaccinated and ID card, I was shown to an indoor dining seat, surrounded by a very animated crowd.

My selection came from the Starters menu after asking my server Caroline what would she suggest after I couldn't make up my mind between the bacon egg & cheese biscuit sandwich yet I wanted to try the devil eggs and biscuits.  I didn't want chicken because I was going to have it for dinner.

They did a nice presentation of the devil eggs.  You could taste the pickled mustard seed within the smoothness of the yolk.  I choose the plain and lemon blueberry biscuits that came with the house strawberry & orange preserves, clover honey, salted butter and maple butter.  The biscuits are oversized and square, nice touch. I tried every single fixins and my favorite was the strawberry & especially the orange preserve on the plain biscuit.  The lemon and blueberry I tried the maple butter, nice.

Overall the portions are large so be prepared because I had to bring most of it home with me.
