 September 10, 2022 @ 2:23 pm

I finally made it to Point Pleasant Beach.  My first stop was the Jenkinson’s Aquarium which their motto is educating people on marine life and conservation which is what I love.  The have a touch and learn about natural wonders which the children love.  You get to feel how smooth the wing’s of a stingray is.  Or the bumps on the back of a sea star.  Jenkinson’s Aquarium is small compared to other aquariums, but you get to see animals from the rainforest.

From there I walked the boardwalk looking to see where and what I was going to eat.  I chose The Grill which is inside a pavilion.  I ordered the fish & chips with a large coke.  The fish and chips came in a bucket, nice.  The fresh cod is battered and fried with a nice crunch, firm and meaty, then I dipped it into the buffalo hot sauce.  The French fries were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside.  The fish and chips were both tasty and good, yet I couldn’t finish the fries, but I did try.

They have an outside bar where you can either eat or drink and listen to the live band.  If you are just going to the bar, the wristband is free.  They have an inside bar as well.  Jenkinson’s has funhouses, miniature golf, amusement park, arcades, gift shops and much more.

Walked a bit and saw Kohr’s homemade Italian ice stand. Eyes bigger than my stomach, I ordered the large, yes you see the picture, blue raspberry and cherry.  I tried to get to the finish line, but alas I gave it a try and finish a large portion. It was so g o o d!  Perfect for a summer day.

This day trip I enjoyed.  The summer breeze, the birds, the wind, people laughing, children running around or getting on rides.  Come and stroll the boardwalk and stay awhile.  You don’t have to drive, you can take the NJ Transit North Jersey Coast train (njtransit.com).

I’m heading back this week.  I’ll look for you.

I did take-out before Labor Day because they were going to be closed, whew!

Serves one of the best roti that I have tasted in New York in years. That’s why I endure the long A train ride from work in the Bronx or happily when I’m working in Manhattan.

I always order the chicken roti.  Now they serve the roti without the bones which I didn’t notice until after I had ordered.  Too late to change.  But it’s all good, I’ll know better the next time.  3And I can’t leave without the Doubles with tamarind sauce.  A gentleman that was standing behind me said that I should try the pepper tamarind sauce, I will next time.

Can I now tell you about the doubles?!!!  Humpty dumpty sat on a wall, humpty dumpty had a great fall, well I hate to tell you that he did not fall down because he just fell, he fell to go and get doubles from Ali’s on Fulton Street!!  Doubles are made with two baras (flat fried dough) and filled with a curry channa (curried chickpeas) then you can add various sauces or chutneys.  I love the filling of potato and chicken which is always well seasoned.  The roti is made with either curried, grilled or stewed meat or vegetables that is wrapped inside a dhalpuri or paratha roti.

No inside dining but still go.

Sunday, September 4, 2022 @ 1:00 pm

I first heard about this restaurant from my friend Nichole L.  This visit has been a long time in coming so I met my friend Ella to have a dine and chat visit.  Our waitress Charlene has a personable spirit.

We both ordered a virgin Island Life drink, coco lopez and pineapple juice.  It tastes like a pina cola but not as thick yet still good.  The cod fish fritters with the scotch bonnet aioli, thin and crispy, and the aioli!!   Tony the Tiger great!  Then the chicken wings with the honey curry.  Forget Emily Post, forget it’s impolite to lick you fingers, all manners go out the door.  Ella order bread fruit which I tried for the first time, I was told it takes the place of potatoes was fried and it has a mild yet tasty flavor.

I order the Walkerswood Pan Jerk Chick which is slow smoked which you can tell after your first bite.  It was seasoned well.  The rice & (red) beans served with seasonal vegetables was a great combination.  Ella dish was the St. Louis Bourbon BBQ Ribs with a side order of 5 cheese baked macaroni pie.  I like the bbq sauce and the mac & cheese.  I order a takeout for my daughter Brandy, slow braised oxtail and butter beans which I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of because she started eating it before I was ready.  All done.  She said that it was good.  For dessert, Ella had the Hennessy cheesecake, smooth and I had vanilla ice cream with a caramel sprinkle with whipped cream and a cherry on top.  Good way to end a meal.

This restaurant has a banquet room which holds 200-250 without seating; seating 30-40.

Let's talk about the celebrity Chef Wenford Simpson, who loves creating and giving you his unique dining experience from Caribbean spices, southern cooking with an American flair.  His motto is “If you’re enjoying the meal, that’s all I want.  It’s about the passion and satisfying my customers with great and memorable food”.   Just to name a few people who have dined and tasted his wonderful cuisine are Magic Johnson, Alicia Keys, Stephen Baldwin, Jamie Fox and Kevin Campbell.

Welcome — Chef Wenford P Simpson

See you there soon!  Many repeat visits.  Yep!

Crostini Stracciatella E Pesto Di Olive

Caprese

Margherita Pizza

Friday, September 2, 2022 @12:15 pm

Since it was such a nice 70 + degrees in New York City, my friend Carla P. and I decided to take advantage of the weather and go and have lunch outside in a setting where we can just sit and talk.  As you will see we ended up at the World Trade Center and took the elevator up to the 3rd floor and decided to eat at La Pizza & La Pasta.  What a view!!!!!

After being shown to our table next to the expansive window, what a view!!  Yes I had to say it again.  Patricia, our waitress was very warm, hospitality galore and such a gracious host as you will ever find.

We ordered from the Quick Italian Lunch Menu – 2 course menu |$22.00 which is 1 antipasto and 1 piatto for a lunch break Italian-style!  For our antipasti, Carla ordered Caprese, house made mozzarella, heirloom tomato, basil, extra virgin olive oil, which she did not enjoy.  I ordered Crostini Stracciatella E Pesto di Olive which is grilled house made Otto bread, house made Stracciatella, Castelvetrano Olive pesto and it was good.  You taste the fresh ingredients.  Stracciatella is an Italian cheese product that is made from pulled mozzarella curds mixed with heavy cream.

We both ordered Margherita Pizza which is done in the Napoletana style.  Thin crust, fresh mozzarella and basil with a light spread of tomato sauce, yum.

They have expert pasta chefs and dough slinging pizzaioli (pizza makers).  You can book a table or not and enjoy the view, yes I said it again.  On weekends they have live music.  La Pizza & La Pasta is an BYOBB (bring your own brown bag) restaurant.

Looking forward to my next visits.
