Friday, September 30, 2022 @ 3:00 pm What a way to end the month. I have passed this restaurant a few times and it piqued my interest.  My foodie senses would go up. So today was the day that my daughter Brandy and I decided to try it out.  I am so thankful that we did. Freddie was our waiter and let me tell you he was wonderful, what you would want in every waiter. Attentive at the appropriate time, helpful, pleasant, responsive, knowledgeable with a sense of humor. For appetizer we ordered pizza.  Nice crust, fresh mozzarella that was delicate with a milk like freshness topped with a pizza sauce that you can taste some of the blended flavors of garlic, oregano, basil, and other herbs that I was too busy eating to decipher.  Bottom line, good. Did I mention that it was cooked in a 600-degree wood stone oven. Brandy had the chicken parmigiana (she asks for it to be unbreaded), fresh mozzarella and tomato sauce with linguini.  The chicken was well seasoned, tender and juicy not dry and overdone.  It was topped with a creamy mozzarella; sauce was bright & tangy providing a fresh and tasty contrast with the fried cutlet.    I had the chicken marsala, yummy.  The combination of pan-fried chicken, tender, savory mushrooms with a rich dark sauce all brought together with the marsala wine sauce was savory (there’s that word again), sweet and tangy, just the right balance.  Yummy belongs here too. For dessert I had a slice of Dulce De Leche which was not real sweet as others I have tried and threw away.  I must say, I enjoyed the cake along with the buttercream, super light, mild flavor, all gone! Jorge the manager stopped by to see how we were doing he was the manager everyone would want.  Hospitable, professional, great conversationalist and wonderful customer service.  Judy the host was very welcoming and lively.  Even the waitress that was just walking by greeted me and the busser who cleared our table was competent, team player and pleasant.     We kind of know what we are going to order on visit number 2.  Three will take care of itself once that time arrives.

My daughter Stacey and I ventured into Clinton Street Baking Company with an empty stomach.  After placing our order with our waitress Shannon, who is very lively, we began to look around & see what others were eating.  During our many conversations, laughing and waiting, I was deciding what I was going to order during my next visit.

Stacey dish was the fried chicken and crispy Belgian vanilla buttermilk waffle which was true to the crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, tasty.  She also had a watermelon lemonade.  It was different yet good.

I had the pancakes with warm maple butter and wild Maine blueberries inside and a blueberry compote on top.  Oh so good!!!   Fresh, sweet and juicy.  You can get it with a sprinkle of power sugar.

Be ready to be put on a waitlist, but it’s worth it.  They usually tell you how long the wait is, but I found it to be shorter than quoted.  I will return many times.

I had so much fun, filled with laughter, storytelling and memories with my daughter Brandy, nephew’s Rha & Reggie and niece Tanika.  I don’t know how we ate between laughing, listening and laughing some more. 

Our waitress Jayla was so pleasant and very helpful. 

For appetizers we had the delicious deviled eggs with smoked salmon.  You get 4 so we ordered 2 dishes.  When those were finished we ordered another, total of 12 eggs.  None were left.  The BBQ wings were saucy yet good.  The cornbread with the strawberry butter, well let’s just say we demolished it.

I had turkey wings with collard greens, yams, cornbread stuffing and potato salad.  The potato salad is mustard based.   Everything was good except the cornbread turkey sausage dressing.  It was a bit to grainy and I couldn’t taste the turkey sausage, it was kind of plain, no taste.

Brandy had the short ribs, for the price you get one short rib, but it was good.  She enjoyed the mac & cheese.  Tanika had the salmon cakes, I had a small bite, it too was good.  Rha & Reggie ordered the catfish, and I do recall nothing was left on their plates.  The smothered chicken was good and tasty.

This restaurant is a BYOB (wine and beer only) and a $5.00 per bottle cork fee is charged.  Very important note: They charge a 20% gratuity for any size party, and a 4% for credit card or debit payment.  Reservations are required for Friday – Sunday and made thru OpenTable and cancelled after 15 minutes.  They do not hold reservations.     

Will I go back, yes to evidentially eat and have dessert.  Like the three berry cobbler with blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream or Donna’s sweet peach cobbler with one scoop of vanilla ice cream.

 On our way back from Baltimore via Washington DC, we were recommended to stop at Kings Family Restaurant. 

I had scrambled eggs (cheese and onions added please), homefries and turkey sausage which I enjoyed.  My daughter Brandy was the same except she had beef bacon.  Sorry no pictures, we started eating because we had been on the highway for hours without eating.  But we have our takeout pictures.

For takeout we both ordered turkey wings, but I had the collard greens and potato salad.  Her sides were mac and cheese and yams.  Unfortunately, the turkey wings were bland, no seasoning.  The collard greens were too soft, almost mushy, no crunch.  The potato salad was ok but the yams and mac and cheese were good.  She ordered a side of short ribs of been and they were tough, not cooked long enough and again, hardly any seasoning.

Our waitress Jessica was very sweet and funny.

We came, we went, end of story.

My daughter Brandy and I went to Washington DC to visit the National Museum of African American History Culture.  What an incredible journey that has documented some of the history of African Americans.  Afterwards it was suggested that we visit Ben’s Chili Bowl a well known restaurant.  So off we went.

I had Ben’s classic jumbo grilled beef chili dog served on a warm steam bun with mustard, Ben’s spicy homemade chili and onions, and fries.  The chili was just ok.  Enough said.  The fries were good.       

Brandy had Ben’s famous chili bowl (small) made with turkey chili and rice and she did not enjoy it at all.
