Okay so my friend Ella and I decided it was time to meet up for lunch and we ventured into the Hard Rock Cafe.  So let's start with the classic nachos.  Crisp tortilla chips that are layered with ranch-style beans and a four cheese sauce blend spicy jalapenos, pickled red onions, melted cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese, green onions, pico de gallo, served with sour cream on the side.  The only thing I will say is that we tried to finish the entire dish and it was a lot, thankfully.

Waitress - Kiah.  Wonderful person, bouncy, lively, quick, efficient and determined to that you receive excellent customer service.

Ella order the double decker double cheeseburger and it was get ready for a two stacked steak burgers with American cheese, mayonnaise, leaf lettuce, tomato and red onion.  She truly enjoyed this cheeseburger.  Full of flavor, meat was tender and juicy and cooked just right.

The  Flatbread was topped full of grilled chicken, shredded mozzarella, diced red peppers and green onions, avocado, pico de gallo, topped off with a chipotle aioli.  With every bit you sink your teat into this grilled bread that is crispy and tender pieces of chicken.  Yummy.

I shall return.

Kale Salad - $13.00

Turkey Burger - pepperjack, avocado ailoi - $16

My friend and co-worker Jessica decided to meet and have dinner at Friedman's to sit and dine and chit chat which is in the Columbia University area
on Thursday, November 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm

Kiah, our waitress was so cool.  She took her time in explaining certain items in the menu that we had questions which made us feel quite comfortable.

The kale salad had mint, dried cranberries, butternut squash, red onions, sunflower seeds, ricotta salata, lemon maple vinaigrette, tasty.

The Turkey Burger topped with pepperjack and avocado ailoi receives a high five.  I bit into that turkey burger and it was an event.  The burger and bun is not your average size.  But it was well worth stretching the jaws.  The combination of the avocado and pepperjack, wonderbar!

This calls for a do over.

Cheeseburger with onion - $6.75

Louis Lunch has been opened since 1895 and serves a classic hamburger on toast that is cooked in a cast iron sideways grill.  That's right, sideways.  It is still family owned and operated.  As a matter of fact my cheeseburger was cooked by Jeff who is of the 4th generation operating this establishment.  Louis Lunch has been recognized by the Library of Congress as the birthplace of the Hamburger Sandwich.

This restaurant peaked my interest after I viewed it on the Food Network.  It has also been featured on the Travel Channel, Food and Wine Magazine, Zagat as well as others.

The building still maintains it's original features, tables, and apparently the counters which have signatures and symbols sketched in the thick wood.

Your order is taken on a plain sheet of paper that is attached to a clipboard.  Now if your name is John for example, they will ask for an last name initial because there might be another John that has placed an order in order to distinguish who has placed what order.

If you are able to be standing in the front of the counter, you will see your hamburger being hand rolled and placed in the grill right.  The hamburgers are only served on white toast, cheese, onion and tomato.  That's it.  If you like ketchup, not here.  If you want relish, not here.  How about hot sauce, not here.  And don't even ask for here.  Not here.  I don't know if being grilled sideways has anything to do with it, but this burger is juicy.  I think I saw a bit of salt and a splash of pepper sprinkle but it was good!  Confession time.  This was my second time here.  I came last year with my friend Deanna and lost the pictures, so I had to make another journey just for you.

One thing about this place you never know who you are either standing or sitting next to.  I happened to be sitting next to Jeff from Dallas and he was in Connecticut visiting a friend and was inspired to come to Louis Lunch.  Hi Jeff!

So I might as well tell you I have another confession to make.  I took the   hour ride again on Metro North and then Uber to Louis Lunch. The Uber cost me about $8.00.

Well, I came back with my friend Deanna on Thursday, November 7, 2019 @ 6:30 pm.   We ate, talked, ate some more, talked, talked and ate some more.  We both had seen Louis Lunch on several cooking shows and it lived up to its reputation.  What a great way to spend a day with good food and a wonderful friend.

Well worth the ride.  Remember my motto, have food will travel.

Friday, September 20, 2019 @ 7:19 pm.

Well my friend Michelle and I had planned to meet up for dinner several times, but due to both of our schedules we were finally able to plan an actual date, the above date.  Upon setting a date I decided that we should go to The Boil in Greenwich Village.  After an exchange of hugs and laughter off we went.   I had made reservations.  Good thing.

When you are being directed to your seat by the hostess, you hear sounds of various conversations and laughter with the sound of slurping.  Once seated Buka ties a bib with a picture of a Dungeness crab on it around your neck with a brown paper tablecloth.  That's why you can slurp.  And I wanted to keep the bib.

Jenny our waitress was quick, efficient and friendly.  When my friend Michelle was not certain between two dishes, so Jenny in her Boil encyclopedia knowledge was able to assist her in her selection, lobster and crawfish.  And it was good!  The corn was juicy, the lobster and crawfish was tender and fresh and well seasoned.  Like don't care that I'm out in public, like those fingers girl!  There's the slurping again.

The salad was overloaded with cilantro and that's about the only think I tasted.  Couldn't find the mango and what happened to the papaya?  I sent it back  When I ask the waitress about the salad they did not tell me that it was made with green papaya and green mango.  Bit difference from what I expected and it is not mention on the menu.

The crab cake had lumps of fresh crabs, smell the ocean, see you later fellow crabs with a taste of mustard, worcestershire sauce, very lightly breaded and whatever other  ingredients they blended together was a good marriage.  Ever so often a waitstaff comes and empties the basket that you have dump the shells in.

All together we enjoyed the food and the experienced.  Looking forward to a return visit without the salad.

Street corn fritters with parmgiana cheese -$6.00

1 chicken chorizo, 1 baja fish tacos - $2.50 each.   Carne asada - $3.50

Sweet tea - $3.50

Sat down to eat on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at 12:48 pm.  Nice bright summer afternoon.  Warm weather, animated crowd, lots of laughter and clicking of glasses for celebration.  Children wanting more.

First off the presentation of the tacos was severely lacking.  They were all bunched up together like they were running for the hills.
  • The chicken taco was made with a green chicken chorizo sausage with tomatillo avocado salsa.  Interesting yet spicy.  The tempura battered cod fish was lacking pep in its flavor but I liked the chipotle slaw.  The carne asada had a mildly seasoned with a tamari citrus and aguacate salsa (avocado salsa).  It was tender and juicy with lettuce.  I liked the carne asada.  I hearing you asking what is tamari.  Well, tamari is a Japanese sauce that is made of fermented soybeans.  It is usually thicker and has more flavor than soy sauce so you will sometimes find it used as a dipping sauce.
When I ordered the corn fritters I was thinking of hush puppies which are sweet and savory.  But then I remember fritters are made from corn and chopped vegetables cooked in a thick batter.  Usually they are crispy on the outside and the inside is soft with lots of fresh bites of juicy corn.  Well that is not what I got.  I didn't taste the sweet and they were kind of dry and lacked seasonings.  The chipotle sauce is what helped saved them.  It was spicy with a mayo base.

My waitress, Alessandra was very welcoming and very attentive.  Receiving that kind of service enhanced my experience.

I would say go for the pleasant ambience, the view of the inner harbor, the lively crowd of all ages from babies to toddlers and up.  And if you can, sit outside and relax with a drink, soda or water with a few friends or family members.  Will I try it again, I might for the crowd, the atmosphere, the view and try something else.
