Fresh Baked Blueberry Pancakes - $13.00

One fine Saturday early morning

This message is being brought to you by a very satisfied fan.  I took the bus from New York yes the bus to find out about the Brownstone Pancake Factory, and it was definitely worth the ride. I was seated right away.  Almost immediately a small tin tub was placed in front of me with my utensils and napkins.  David my server introduced himself and I found him to be very professional, knowledgeable about the menu and quite friendly.  The restaurant decor was very intriguing. Brick walls, wallpaper with throwback newspaper clippings and an upside down Huffy bike hanging near the entrance.  Music playing, a couple of televisions,  an upside down Wooden bench hanging behind the counter.  Another wallpaper scene appears as if you could walk in the park with lots of green foliage and artificial turf on the ceiling. Round blue tables, vintage looking lamps, circulating double fans, steel metal grey or clear plastic chairs. Get the idea.

I watched children run & jump into their seats, watched them picked up their spoons or forks and dived in, didn't care who was looking, they were feasting and laughing with a mouth full of food.

After looking through the large menu, I ordered the Fresh Bake Blueberry Pancakes with fresh blueberries baked inside topped with a blueberry compote on the side and a glass of milk with ice.  They were light, fluffy, and indeed fresh and sweet blueberries.  The blueberry compote was just right, smooth with just the right amount of blueberries, hot and not overly sweet.  I tried to do my plate justice and eat it all, but I couldn't.   Which means another road trip is on the horizon!!

Since I first wrote this, I have been back many, many times.  My last trip here was September 24, 2020.

Early one saturday morning....

Country style slab bacon, two eggs and grits - $10.95

Woke up one Saturday morning and I just felt like having a good old country breakfast.  So I decided to visit Sylvia’s.   Sylvia is known as the southern comfort food the Queen of Soul Food restaurant world wide.  It nest in the Harlem community of Manhattan and has been since 1962.  As the years pass Sylvia added more space to accommodate her growing crowd.  You can sit at the counter and watch the wait staff bustle around dishing up plates of food, or you can sit at a table and watch dishes being brought to others while you wait for yours.

I arrived around 10:30 am and it was so crowded I decided to sit at the counter and I ordered the country style slab bacon, one scrambled egg with cheese and onion, grits topped off with a cup of orange juice.  That bacon, that bacon, that bacon, brought back memories that keep getting in my way.  The meat was tasty and the rind, ohhhhh the rind!!!  The grits were smooth and the medium soft scrambled eggs were cooked exactly like I like them.  And yes you see a lot of pepper on my eggs and grits, I'm a pepper person, don't judge!  Okay okay so I started eating before I took the picture, don't blame the girl.  Now back to the bacon.  Tender, juicy, full of flavor, oh the rind, the rind.  And yes you see a lot of pepper on my eggs and grits, I'm a pepper person, don't judge!

The only think about sitting at the counter is that you can enter the restaurant and sit and have already made up your mind of what you will have, but as soon as you see the wait staff lift the lids off of the other foods then its game on.  Do you stick to your first choice, change your mind, or have a battle of the mind.

Yep its back to the counter for another round on another day, night, evening, afternoon, twilight, mid-day, after sunset, when the sun is setting, when the moon is out, on a cloudy day, maybe a rainy day.  Yep yep, I'm going back.

Since I originally wrote this blog, I have been back several times.  The last time I dined indoor was twice during the first week in January 2020 when my daughter Teria and granddaughters Skye and Cherokee and great-granddaughter Jetaime, better known as Jet were visiting from California.  Also my daughter Stacey and my granddaughter Alana.  My daughter Brandy and my niece's Pheon and Tawana.  Food was still great and we had an amazing time, laughing, reminiscing and just enjoying each other's company.
